Thinking INSIDE the box:
Libby and Regan Foster spent about a year building a seven-bedroom home with five bathrooms near the Colorado capital's Zuni Park, the Denver Post reported.
'I tried to dream up a new and creative way to build a house and this is what we came up with,' Regan told the Post.
The 4,000-square-foot house has two stories, with seven bedrooms and five bathrooms, and an upstairs suite specially made for Libby's mother, accessible via 'a catwalk covered with panels sawed from a large catalpa tree,' according to the Post.
For an estimated total cost of $500,000, the Fosters paid for the lot, the containers and other materials, and the help of an architect, a structural engineer, and subcontractors.
The containers cost $2,200 each and are eight feet wide, 40 feet long and 9½ feet tall.
The couple told the Post that curious neighbors sometimes walk across the home's dirt lot - the garden has yet to be landscaped - and ogle at the container house's occupants.
'We'll have people walk up on the weekend and peek through the windows while we're sitting there in our pajamas,' Regan said.
